Immigrant visas are intended for foreign citizens who plan to live permanently in the United States without any time limitations. Generally, a foreign citizen who wishes to apply for an immigrant visa must be sponsored by a relative who is a US citizen, a prospective employer, or be the beneficiary of an approved petition filed with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
