| 180 days before bankruptcy is filed: You must complete a credit counseling course and receive a certificate of completion. We will provide you with the information regarding this counseling course, and register you for an appropriate course. 0 days, bankruptcy is filed: You will file a petition with the appropriate office of the US Bankruptcy Court requesting protection from creditors under Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. 15 days after bankruptcy is filed: All required documents must be filed with the Court, including schedules of assets and liabilities, and a Chapter 13 repayment plan. 30 days after bankruptcy is filed: If you have filed a Chapter 13, your first payment on your Chapter 13 Plan is due. If you have filed a Chapter 7, your Statement of Intention regarding your property is due. 4-6 weeks after bankruptcy is filed: You must attend a mandatory meeting with the bankruptcy trustee to confirm the good faith of your filing. Creditors who wish to object to your bankruptcy filing may appear at this meeting, but this is very rare. 45 days after your meeting: If you filed a Chapter 7, you must complete a financial management course and the certificate must be filed with the Court for you to receive your discharge. We will provide you with the necessary information for this course. 60-90 days after meeting: If you filed a Chapter 7, your debts will usually be discharged if no objections are made. 3-5 years after meeting: If you filed a Chapter 13, your remaining debts will be discharged if no objects are made. 3 months before your discharge: If you filed a Chapter 13, you must complete a financial management course and the certificate must be filed with the Court for you to receive your discharge. You may get information regarding this course from us or from your Chapter 13 trustee. |
